"Thor’s Battle with the Giants" by Carl Johan Bonnesen, 1926. This colossal sculpture group is currently located in Odense, Denmark. It was originally commissioned by a Danish industrialist who had acquired the island Torø (Thor’s island), a site where sacrifices were made to Thor prior to the conversion of the Danes to Christianity. It took Bonnesen four years to sculpt the group, his hands often bleeding from the work, and it took the founder four more years to cast it in bronze
